Olympian Missy Franklin inspires young athletes

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin has experienced defeat. She has also experienced victory. But with each experience, she strives to be the best she can be and stresses to aspiring young athletes to do the same.

Franklin was this year’s featured speaker at the 18th Annual Salute the Stars luncheon on May 6, 2016 at Sports Authority Field. She described her path to the top of the Olympic podium and attributes her success to remaining true to herself and working hard.

Every year, the John Lynch Foundation celebrates student-athletes, including those with special needs for their achievements in the classroom, on the field and in the community.

To-date the program has awarded $825,000 in scholarships.

“We are proud to support these student-athletes,” said Reiman Foundation Chairman Scott Reiman. “They inspire us through their leadership and dedication.”

The Reiman Foundation proudly sponsors Salute the Stars and supports many programs that foster our next generation of leaders.

Pioneers’ McGee first to win NCAA gymnastics championship

DU NCAA Champtionship

DU’s Nina McGee wins first NCAA Individual Championship in gymnastics.

University of Denver gymnast Nina McGee has made history.

McGee became the Pioneers’ first NCAA Individual Champion in the gymnastics floor exercise with her 9.950 score at this month’s NCAA Championship in Fort Worth, Texas.

Five years ago, McGee’s future in gymnastics was uncertain. She had to make the difficult choice whether to give up gymnastics or have metal rods put into her legs to mitigate shin splints and stress fractures of the tibias in both legs. She decided to compete.

And at this year’s championship, she did just that. In addition to taking home the floor exercise title, McGee earned three All-American honors: first team in the all-around and floor exercise and second team on the bars.

Here are a few other outstanding achievements made by DU athletics so far this school year:

  • Women’s Tennis: Third-consecutive Summit League Title
  • Men’s Tennis: Third-consecutive Summit League Title
  • Women’s Golf: Third-consecutive Summit League Title
  • Men’s Hockey: Advanced to Frozen Four in NCAA Championship
  • Ski Team: 2015-2016 NCAA Champions

As a DU alumnus, Scott Reiman has been a longtime member of the University community and supports the school’s athletic programs.

Rocky Mountain PBS plans to move headquarters.

Rocky Mountain PBS is marking its 60th anniversary with a Denver Central Library exhibit sharing with visitors its past, while CEO Doug Price, looks to its future.

The public broadcaster is working towards a $30 million capital campaign to fund new headquarters at 21st and Arapahoe streets.

The project, with Rocky Mountain PBS at its core, will ignite development in a neighborhood on the verge of urban revival.

If funding goals are met, RMPBS’s plans include a major new complex containing offices, studios, a theater possibly to be run by the Denver Center for Performing Arts, a “Discovery and Exploration Center” or digital learning lab for inner-city kids as well as an educational campus for the University of Colorado media department.

RMPBS’s plan still requires city approval.

Scott Reiman, local investor, business leader and philanthropist, is proud to serve on the board of directors and support Rocky Mountain PBS.
